Yesterday my alarm clock when off at 5 am and surprisingly I was wide awake. I practically jumped out of bed and grabbed the workout clothes I had laid out the night before. I’m usually really sleepy at that hour and just sort of force myself to get dressed on autopilot and drive to the gym. It’s also really hard to get out of a nice, warm, comfy bed when you know you have to go outside and brave the freezing cold New England weather. This was waiting for me when I got into the car:
Since I had so much energy, I was anticipating an awesome workout, but when I finally jumped on the treadmill at the gym my legs felt like lead. I planned to do intervals for two miles, but that was definitely not going to happen so I just focused on running at a consistent speed of 6.0 with the treadmill at a 1.0 incline.
I love working out in the morning. It’s such a great way to start my day! The only problem is that I don’t have a lot of time before work. I usually do 20-30 minutes of cardio before heading home to shower, eat breakfast and drive to work. I do strength training at home three to four nights a week incorporating dumbbells and body weight exercises. At some point I may rethink this arrangement to take advantage of the machines at the gym, but this works with my schedule for now.
Before heading to work I had a bowl of raisin bran cereal with hazelnut coffee and almond milk. Then I packed my lunch,
a snack and headed out the door! I eat my snack around 10 am every morning. Todays’s pick was a Nutz over Chocolate Luna Bar. Soooooo freakin good!
So, do you ever have days where you just aren’t feeling your workout? Any tricks to get through it?
