A New Opportunity

I have some big news that’s been keeping me pretty busy for the last two months or so. Next Monday, I’ll be starting a new job. I’m leaving my position as an editor at the magazine where I’ve worked for about three years now. I got that job right out of school so this will be my first time making the leap somewhere else.

It’s going to be a pretty big change for me because I’m leaving the magazine world behind and taking a position as a Marketing Content Specialist at a new company a little farther away than I work now. Between job hunting, interviewing, work-related trips and wrapping up at my old job I wasn’t able to find the time to hop on over here and say hi to you all, but I did miss my blog friends a lot!

I’m so excited to start my new position. I’m a big believer in never letting yourself get too comfortable. You have to stretch yourself to learn new skills and grow in order to advance your career. This new job is definitely a position where I can do all of those things. Friday will mark the end of what I expect to be an emotional week as I say goodbye to my coworkers and friends.

Wish me luck!

Little Pleasures: Mother’s Day Weekend, a Movie and More

Hi everyone, I hope you had a great weekend. My posting schedule has been sporadic to say the least this past week and I’m not sure it’s going to get any better in the near future. Things are crazy, crazy, crazy around here, but I’m still committed to putting together some great content for you guys, just not as often as I used to, at least not for now. Thanks to everyone who’s stuck with me and please continue to check in a few days a week!

Now, for some weekend highlights:

age-of-ultron

Friday Brian and I saw The Avengers: Age of Ultron. I thought it was a little long, but overall I enjoyed the movie. I’ve never seen the first Avengers film and I don’t know much about Marvel Comics, but I didn’t need to. The movie stands on its own. For me, the highlight of the movie was Elizabeth Olsen who played the Scarlet Witch. I was obsessed with the Olsen twins as a kid and Elizabeth is their younger sister so I thought that was pretty neat. I guess talent runs in the family.

Saturday, I did some last minute mother’s day shopping and during a trip to the Hallmark store I stumbled across these beauties. Red Sox and wine? Yes, please! I didn’t buy these glasses, but I sure did think about it!

Oscar’s new thing is to jump onto our headboard while we’re sleeping. He looks like such a creep in this picture. It cracks me up! What’s not so funny? When Oscar decides to jump down from the headboard onto either me or Brian. That’s not the best way to be woken up.

mother'sday

Mother’s day was in the 90’s here so I had the opportunity to break out my new breezy maxi dress and pair it with a red mani. Brian and I spent the day with both of our mothers. We went to his parents first for lunch and presents followed by plenty of time lounging on their deck. Around 3:00 we headed to my parent’s house for a cookout and more deck time. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures. I was too busy trying not to melt lol. It was a great weekend, but like usual, it went by too quickly.

Have a great Monday everyone, I will see you soon!

Some Not So Good News…But At least It Was a Good Weekend

I’ve missed you party people! Did everyone have a good weekend? Mine was spent indulging in the beautiful summer-like weather we had here, but before I get into the details I want to start with some not so great news. I got into a car accident on my way home from work on Thursday and it was a bad one. I’m fine and the other person involved is OK too, but my airbags deployed and my car is a mess so I won’t be driving my beloved Rogue anytime soon. I’m just happy nobody was injured. Being without my car is only a minor inconvenience considering things could have been a lot worse.

Now that we got that unpleasantness out of the way, onto happier things! Saturday night Brian and I met a coworker and her boyfriend at Volturno Pizza in Worcester.

The restaurant is known for its Neapolitan style pizza. The crust is light and airy and the toppings are incredibly fresh. Pictured above is the Volturno pizza with three different kinds of cheeses, tomato sauce and arugula. Brian also added bacon and sausage to his pizza. I forgot to take a picture of mine, but I ordered the Capri pizza and it was delish!

We followed up dinner with a quick stop at Sweet, a dessert bar on the same street. We each got one of their amazing cupcakes before calling it a night. I chose a vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting and Brian had carrot cake.

Sunday we went to Brian’s parents’ house for lunch and sat on the deck to enjoy the gorgeous weather. It had to have been at least 75 outside and the next few days in the Boston area are going to be in the 80s. I can’t wait!

Speaking of things I can’t wait for, I’m taking a Pure Barre class at 5:30 tonight with my favorite instructor. That will give me something to look forward to even if I do have a case of the Mondays.

Have a great day everyone. I will see you all tomorrow!

Recent Spring Finds

Now that the weather is finally getting warmer here in the Boston area, I’ve made a few updates to my wardrobe to accommodate the changing seasons. I’m making an effort this spring to buy just a few versatile pieces that I can mix and match with things I already have. I love the idea of creating a capsule wardrobe, which I read about on Unfancy and the Fitnessista, but I’d say my little experiment isn’t quite the same.

Here some of the items I’ve purchased so far:

Old Navy Sleeveless V-Neck Tanks

Old navy tank top

old navy top  I loved this shirt so much I bought it in two colors. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before, but blousy patterned tanks are my favorite spring/summer pieces.

American Eagle Crops

I needed bottoms that I could dress up for work and dress down on the weekend so I purchased these cropped jeggings from American Eagle. Paired with heels or wedges they look nice enough for my casual office environment, but not too fancy to wear with flip flops while running errands.

Forever 21 Maxi Dress

This isn’t the exact dress I bought, but it’s similar. I couldn’t find a picture online, but the one I have is black with small white flowers. I can’t wait until it’s warm enough to actually wear it!

American Eagle Wedges via Payless

payless wedges

I always buy one pair of black wedges and one pair of neutral wedges for spring/summer. My neutral wedges I bought last year held up really well, but my black ones were falling apart so I grabbed these at payless. I’ve already worn them once and they are super comfy.

I’m still looking for a few more tops and some go-with-everything cardigan sweaters to throw on when it gets cool.

That’s it for me. Have a great Tuesday everyone!

What are your go-to spring/summer pieces?

My New Favorite Running App + Let’s Catch Up

Hi friends,

Things have been crazy around here so let’s catch up! I’ve been in a bit of running rut lately. I used to love my daily run. I used to need it the way people need oxygen, but lately I’ve been feeling ehhh about running. I slacked on cardio this winter with all the snow we had and I’m feeling the effects of it now. The good news is I may have found a solution. While browsing Facebook last week I saw an ad for a running app called Running for Weight Loss. I’m not trying to lose weight despite the name of the app..just want to throw that out there….anyway the app is for running intervals. The program I’m following right now is a 40 minute run with jogging, sprints and steady state running mixed in.

Running for Weight Loss

I’m not very good at running intervals on my own so having this app has been a great way to switch up my workout and get me excited for some cardio.

I’m still as obsessed with Pure Barre as ever. My new client special ended this week so I had to purchase a new class package. If you aren’t a barre fan, let me tell you it’s darn expensive! But, I’m hooked and the changes I’ve seen in my body are amazing so I sucked it up and purchased a 6 month auto pay package at a reduced rate.

It’s always been difficult for me to build muscle. I’ve tried to lift heavy weights and work up gradually, but I’m never really satisfied with the results. I’m a very petite woman. I’m just under 5ft tall and when I started taking barre I was 93 lbs. Now, a month later I have muscle definition in my arms I’ve never seen before and stronger legs. I’m about 97-98 lbs. now and I look better than ever.

Brian and I have a new show we’re currently binge watching on Netflix. It’s called The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. It was created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock so you know it’s going to be funny. The premise is a little odd, but it’s worth checking out.

Work has been crazy, so much so that I don’t want to even think about writing more at the end of the day, which is why I haven’t been sticking to my regular blogging schedule. I’m an editor for an online magazine and we’re launching a new website, which requires a lot more work from me than I realized it would, but it’ll all be worth it in the end because the new design is awesome and our readers are going to love it!

Alright, if you made it to the end of this post then thanks for sticking with me! Now that I’ve told you about my life, what’s going on with you?
