Workout Wednesday

It’s Workout Wednesday…Abs Style!

Happy Wednesday! The week will be half over soon and the weekend is in sight. I’m really looking forward to this weekend in particular because I’m reuniting with my best friend from grad school. I haven’t seen her in two years because she took a job out of state as news producer when we graduated, but she just moved back to New England and we’ll be reuniting Saturday afternoon. I cannot tell you how excited I am. I miss this girl dearly and I hope to see a lot more of her in the near future. There’s really nothing like a good girlfriend!

Alright, back to the real reason for this post. It’s Workout Wednesday so I have a new workout for you guys. This one is all about the abs.

I have to admit I did not test drive this one yet. I was too sore from the Pure Barre class I took on Tuesday, but I do plan to give it a try this weekend.

Have a great Wednesday everyone. I will see you all tomorrow!

10 Minute Ab Workout + I bought a Fitness Tracker

We’re still buried in snow here in the Boston area so I haven’t been to the gym as often as I’d like. Instead, I’ve been using my basement treadmill. I think I mentioned before that it’s stuck on an incline, which makes for one heck of a workout! I don’t do a lot of hill running so any treadmill work at an incline leaves my legs burning for days.

Speaking of burning, I have a 10 minute ab workout for you guys today. I did this one last night right in my living room.

If you happen to try this out, let me know how it goes.

Now, as you could probably tell from the title of this post, I have one more thing to share with you on this lovely Workout Wednesday. I bought a fitness tracker. I ordered a Jawbone Up from the Khol’s website. They were having a sale so I got it for $60 rather than $129. I’d been eyeing it for a while and with the price drop I just couldn’t say no.

Jawbone UP

This is the second generation band (at least I think it is). I know it’s not the newest model, hence the price cut, but I still thought it was worth the investment. My Up band is supposed to arrive today so I’ll be heading straight to the mailbox on my way home from work. I’m excited to open it and start playing around!

Anyone out there using a Jawbone Up? What do you think? Anyone using another type of activity tracker?

Happy NYE + An Ab Workout

Can you believe it’s almost 2015? I think the year snuck up on me. Where the heck did 2014 go? Overall this year was a good one and it brought the birth of Pink Polish and Running Shoes, my little corner of the internet. In Feb., it will officially be one year since I started my blog and I’ve enjoyed sharing my life with you guys so much that I can’t wait to see what the new year brings.

Now, since it’s Workout Wednesday and we’re used to a new workout routine around here, lets get down to business. Here’s a little something to work those abs!

Have a fun and safe New Year’s Eve everyone! I will see you all tomorrow.

Do you have any plans for tonight? How do you celebrate NYE?

At Home Ab Circuit: Workout Wednesday

Workout Wednesday

Abs are my favorite body part to work. You don’t need any equipment and you can sneak in a little distraction.

I did this workout a few nights ago and it flew by because I plopped myself in front of the TV and watched Mad Men for the billionth time while I ran through the circuit. (Have I mentioned Brian and I are obsessed with that show?)

All you need for this circuit is a timer. Enjoy and go get those washboard abs!

This Is Why I Can’t Do Things On a Work Night

Another short post coming at you today. Last night I went to a trivia night at Johnny D’s in Somerville with some friends and between that and Sunday night’s Luke Bryan concert I am fried. Remember back in elementary school when you’d ask your parents if you could do something and they’d say “no it’s a school night.” Well, I think the same goes for a work night, at least for me anyway. And in case your wondering, no I did not make it to the gym yesterday morning or this morning and I’m feeling cranky about it. I’ll have to go tonight.

Anyway, I have a few food and fitness related things I want to share. Yesterday I had my first Chipotle burrito bowl ever…oh my gosh amazing. Why have I not been eating these all along?

I feel like I’m being healthier when I don’t order the giant burrito wrap to go with my burrito, but who knows. That’s still a decent amount of food and I ate (inhaled) the whole thing on our way to Somerville.

I also want to share two new workouts I completed over the weekend. I’m still on my Pilates/Barre kick so both of the videos I completed are in that category. This first video is a lower body workout. The link is below the picture.

The second video is an ab/core workout.

I love Pilates + Oscar Survived the Vet

I was inspired by Heather from Housewife Glamour’s post the other day and decided to return to one of my old favorite workouts, Pilates. In high school I absolutely loved Pilates and practically wore out my favorite Mari Windsor DVD, which I still have the btw. I considered breaking it out last night, but didn’t feel like doing a 20 minute video so I reached for another old favorite instead, 10 Minute Pilates Perfect Body.

The DVD has 10 minute segments focused on different parts of the body. You can choose to complete one segment like I did last night or the whole video for a total body 50 minute workout. I focused on my abs. Here is a full version of the DVD I found on YouTube. Abs happen to be the first 10 minute segment.

I love the lean, toned look that Pilates gives me. I feel strong without looking too bulky, if you know what I mean. Pilates and Barre style workouts also remind me of my years as a dancer because they involve the same type of tightly controlled repetitive movements that really make you feel the burn!

Last night I also put in an upper body workout to make up for Monday night’s skipped weight training. I did this workout in front of the TV, of course. We all know that’s my favorite way to do it 😉 .

Also….Big News! Oscar survived his vet appointment and he didn’t even try to run away! Brian and I are ridiculously proud of the little guy. He had us a scared  for  a minute because as soon as we took out his carrier he knew what was up and tried his best to get away from us. We finally corralled him into the cage though.

Oscar is not a happy cat in this picture. Fortunately, he was on his best behavior at the vet’s office. He tried to cling to the towel in his cage for dear life when the technician picked him up to weigh him, but other than that he was fine and the vet Dr. Patti was awesome. She was so friendly and really made Oscar feel at ease. He seemed to like her right away and that doesn’t happen often with him.

We found out Oscar is perfectly healthy. The vet was very happy with his examination. We just need to go back in three weeks for his second rabies shot. Oscar got the first one when he was still in the shelter.

After the vet appointment Oscar got his beloved Fancy Feast and he was one happy kitty. He spent the rest of the afternoon napping.

It’s crazy how much I love Oscar. We’ve only had him for about a year, but he is such a big part of our little family.

Alright, that’s it for me today. I will see you all tomorrow!
